In the Georgia State Senate

• Sponsor of "Georgia's Promise" an initiative to ensure that all Georgians in the top 10% of their high school class can attend any public university in Georgia.
• Co-sponsor of legislation allowing the Georgia Board of Education to add an elective academic course on the Bible's influence on literature, art, music and culture.
• Led the effort in the Georgia State Senate to remove the possibility of a return to the 1956 Georgia State Flag, which included the Confederate Battle emblem.
• Co-authored and passed legislation for Transfer of Developmental Rights, which will expand and protect green space in South Fulton.
• Worked to pass legislation providing for a referendum on a smoking ban for the city of Douglasville.
• Co-authored and passed legislation providing for a sales referendum which, if passed, will substantially reduce future water bills of South Fulton residents.
• Led and participated in a Clean Community Initiative which provided for a community clean-up involving more than 700 volunteers in South Fulton and Douglas Counties.
• Co-authored and passed the "Smoke Free Air Act" legislation to ban smoking in indoor spaces in order to prevent cancer related illness from second-hand smoke.

In the Georgia State House of Representatives

• Consistently cut taxes, and has never voted for a property tax increase or income tax increase for Georgians.
• Sponsored and passed State Legislation to cut senior citizens' taxes by increasing the City of Atlanta's homestead exemption for seniors from $15,000.00 to $25,000.00, providing much needed property tax relief.
• Implemented a tax freeze for Fulton County senior citizens.
• Co-sponsored and passed legislation creating local code enforcement boards to assist citizens in maintaining clean and safe neighborhoods while enhancing their property values
• Created the South Fulton Regional Water and Sewer Authority study committee to address the water and infrastructure needs of our citizens in South Fulton County.
• Increased penalties against people who take guns to schools ad against people who sell guns to our young people.
• Worked to pass the Georgia Predatory Lending Act, which protects our citizens from lending institutions who use deceptive practices to sell high-interest loans to our neighbors.
• Served as the House sponsor for the Georgia Hate Crimes Bill, a law which increases punishment against criminals who commit crimes motivates by bias or prejudice.
• Voted for substantial education reform, legislation that requires stricter discipline provisions in schools and bonds to build 5,000 new classrooms and related facilities to reduce pupil-teacher ratio.
